Genital herpes

If you think that herpes is only sores that appear from time to time on your lips, than you are wrong. Actually, there are two types of herpes. The first type or herpes virus (HV-1) affects mainly mouth, eyes and nose. The other type (HV-2) affects genitals, therefore this problem concerns sexual health.
This is genital herpes. It can also be provoked by the virus HV-1 if it got into organism through oral sex.

How is it passed on?

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease. One can be infected not only from a person who has rash on the genitals, but also in cases when there are no characteristic symptoms of the disease. The virus can be transmitted through oral-genital contact, as well.
Infection through shared things can be rarely met. Usually the disease affects young people of 20-29. Herpes virus remains in the organism for the whole life. In the periods between outbreaks the virus is in the nervous system and does not show itself. That is why people who do not know that they are infected can be a source of infection for their sex partners. Pity enough, no one can be sure about his or her sexual health .

Genital herpes Symptoms

In women the disease begins with stomachache and pains in genitals, abnormalities in urination and pyoid discharges from the vagina. Sometimes infected women suffer from fever, headache and pain in muscles. These symptoms last a few days and than dissappear. After 3-5 days little blisters filled with fluid appear. After two-three days these blisters turn into little painful ulcers which heal up at the seventh or the eighth day.
Men show the same symptoms, but the rash usually appears on the penis. Also the disease can result in infectional prostatitis, that provokes pain in muscles and obstructed urination.
Recently scientists have arrived to the conclusion that herpes is rather dangerous for human health. British scientists have proved that herpes virus can provoke:
Cancer of cervix
Noncarrying of pregnance
Congenital eyes diseases of new born children

Genital herpes Testing

Diagnostics of herpes infections does not present any difficulties if the examined person has rash on the skin. But if the person does not show any symptoms it is not so simple to make the diagnosis. Tests for genital herpes are not complicated or painful. They usually consist of taking a swab from sores and urine tests. Besides this, infected people are examined by a doctor, women may have an internal examination.
Treatment
Treatment of genetal herpes is rather difficult. First of all, it is because virus remains in the body forever. Secondly, because there are no effective medicines for its treatment.
Antiviral medicines in pills are used for herpes treatment. Besides this, in the periods of the diseases worsening patients are prescribed special antibody. Also vitamins, antihistamines and other medicines can be applied.

How to avoid genital herpes?

As genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease the ways of its precaution are evident:
Avoid casual sexual contacts
Always use condom
Make sure that you use barrier contraceptives correctly
You can see that the methods of genital herpes precaution do not differ from other diseases that affect sexual health. The main thing is not to forget about them.
