Delayed ejaculation

Delayed ejaculation implies inability to orgasm and ejaculate either during sexual intercourse or any other sexual activity. As well ejaculation is considered to be delayed if a man can orgasm only after long lasting (30 minutes and more) genital stimulation of any kind - sexual intercourse, manual stimulation, oral sex or masturbation with sex toys (love dolls, realistic vaginas, oral sex imitators, etc. Sometimes a man cannot ejaculate during sexual intercourse, whereas he easily orgasms during masturbation.

Causes of delayed ejaculation

There are psychological and physical causes of delayed ejaculation. What are these?

Physical causes

Having undergone pelvic surgery that might have caused trauma to pelvic nerves which are responsible for orgasm.
  • A neurological disease, for example stroke or damage to the back or spinal cord.

  • Diabetes

  • Cancer

  • Prostate problems.

  • Some allergies

  • High blood pressure

  • Excessive use of alcohol or recreational drugs
  • Side effect of some medications, for example of some antidepressants

Psychological causes

Though there are many physical factors that can influence a man's ability to orgasm and ejaculate, there are much more psychological reasons for delayed ejaculation. Usually these causes concern some cultural and religious taboos as well as some fears and phobias

  • Being afraid to cause pregnancy

  • Felling guilt for having pleasure. This can be resulted from religious conditioning

  • Associating vagina with something "obscene" or "dirty"

  • Being totally focused on the partner's pleasure

  • Considering the partner unattractive

  • Conditioning resulted from some masturbating patterns. A man who regularly masturbates is used to strong pressure he provides with his hands. Such strong pressure is not normal for vaginal intercourse, so a man cannot orgasm and ejaculate without intensive stimulation he is used to.

These and many other psychological problems might disable a man to orgasm and ejaculate. This sexual health problem as well as early ejaculation causes many problems for a man who suffers from it as well as for his partner.

What problems does DE cause?

In spite of the fact that many men, especially those who suffer from early ejaculation, wish they could make love for hours, delayed ejaculation causes a great deal of problems for a man as well as for his partner. These problems become especially serious as soon as a man gets into stable relationships especially if a man and his partner hope to have children.

Delayed ejaculation often leads to broken relationships. A woman whose man cannot orgasm is likely to feel insulted by the fact that her partner cannot cum and ejaculate when making love to her. This might lead to more severe problems - once being denied by a partner a man begins worrying even more about his ability to orgasm. Thus psychological reasons for delayed ejaculation deepen.

Treatment

It is quite natural that treatment of delayed ejaculation depends on the reason that caused this sexual health problem.

Treatment of delayed ejaculation caused by a physical reason naturally implies treating this or that disease or coping with other problem that caused delayed ejaculation. For instance, this can be changing of some medications or discontinuing use of alcohol.

Usually treatment of delayed ejaculation caused by psychological problems implies working with a sex therapist specializing in this area. This especially concerns cases when a man cannot orgasm and ejaculate inside the vagina.

Usually sexual therapy directed to treating early ejaculation implies a series of homework assignments within the couple. Most likely a couple will be prohibited from having sexual intercourse and will be recommended to perform other types of sex activity that leads to ejaculation outside the vagina. Step by step the couple is encouraged to pass to more "advanced" situations in which the man will be able to cope with ejaculating inside the vagina.

Commonly this implies that a woman stimulates her partner's genitals with hands until he orgasms, even if this takes two or three hours. Finally the couple gets to the stage when a woman stimulates her partner and puts his penis inside her vagina as soon as she feels he is going to orgasm.

In some cases therapy can be successfully combined with hypnosis, for example when a partner does not want to take part in therapy.

Keep in mind that in most cases self-treatment of delayed ejaculation turns out to be unsuccessful. Necessarily apply to a therapist who will help you cope with your problem. Let professionals care for your sexual health!
