Female Infertility
If you are very eager to have children, but you cannot get pregnant, than your life becomes terrible. You read thick textbooks on sexual health instead of detective and love stories. You can speak only about ovulation and spermagogeny with your friends and relatives. You make a calendar for calculating the days when you are most likely to get pregnant. You take each menstruation as mockery. Step by step sex turns into an important gynecologic procedure.
Unfortunately, every fifth couple is infertile. According to statistics, a man is to blame of infertility in 30-40 per cent of all cases. Nevertheless, women take inability to get pregnant as their own trouble.
Female infertility is more complex than male one. Female organism must not only produce a full-fledged egg, but it also must meet all the requirements that are necessary for conception and normal pregnancy. Even an insignificant defect of reproductive organs can make conception problematic.
Doctors distinguish primary and secondary infertility. Primary infertility is a term that is used to describe a woman that has never been able to conceive. Secondary one means that the ability for childbirth used to be but disappeared for some reasons.
What are the causes of infertility?
Among the causes of female infertility, problems connected with eggs maturation (39 per cent of all cases) are the most important ones. Usually such problems occur as the result of various disorders in hormones. Sometimes these problems are caused by some diseases of ovaries, for example cyst.
Other cause implies some defects of fallopian tubes. Fallopian tubes of an infertile woman can be damaged or blocked. This can be the result of adhesions that occur after surgical operatios, inflamatorry processes in fallopian tubes or in womb, abdominal pregnancy or abortion. Very often defects of fallopian tubes are caused by sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhoea, syphilis, clamidiosis etc. Normally, spermatazoon and egg are to meet in fallopian tube, but if the latter is blocked, conception is impossible.
Cervical canal problems are one more cause of infertility. Cervical canal of a healthy woman is filled with which mucus makes the spermatazoons way to egg easier. If the mucus is too viscous or if its chemistry is damaged, than spermatazoons are likely to be stopped in the middle of their way. Usually this problem is the result of sexually transmitted diseases or cervix inflammation. At times some agents that can damage or even destroy spermatazoons appear in the mucus or cervix
Also infertility can be caused by wombs defects, such as inflamatorry processes, bening tumours or cysts.
There is a peculiar disease which nearly always brings about infertility. This is endometriosis. The cells covering womb begin to develop in wrong places (in ovaries, vagina or somewhere else). This confusion cannot will not do any good.
Some diseases that have nothing to do with reproductive organs can result in infertility. These are thyroid gland ,diseases metabolic imbalance, diabetis, etc.
Smoking, overdoing of alcohol, polluted environment, obesity and lack of vitamines can damage fertility as well.
Women should bear in mind that the older a woman is the less chances to get pregnant she has. Ability to conceive and general state of sexual healthweaken with the increase of years.
Remember that the most reliable sign of infertility is absence of pregnancy during several years of sex life without contraception. Also you should pay attention to your menstrual cycle. If it is irregular or if discharges last more than a week you should visit your doctor.
Diagnostics of Female Infertility
A woman who is dreaming about getting pregnant must apply to a doctor, rather than cry all nights long. 95 per cent of all cases of infertility is treatable today.
A doctor will examine you thoroughly in order to found out whether you are infertile or not. After he examines your vagina and pelvic organs, a sample of mucus from your cervix and vagina may be tested for possible infection. If necessary, some special procedures, such as hysterosalpingogram laparoscopy, or ultrasound checkup will be carried out. As like as not, you may need an endocrinologists consultation.
According to medical standards a doctor must make diagnosis within 6 months after the beginning of examination. You should be aware of the fact that it is much more logical to examine first of all the mans state of sexual health and check his fertility. It will take less time and will be much cheaper than examination of the woman.
Treatment of Female Infertility
The main goal is to get rid of all defects and diseases that caused infertility: to improve hormonal balance, to restore passableness of falopian tubes,to remove tumours, to get rid of endometriosis, etc. Choose a special clinic, follow your doctors adise and do not reject prescribed operations. If you still did cannot restore your fertility, do not lose heart. Modern medicine gives women the chance to get pregnant even in this case. You should apply to a clinic where the method of extracorporal fertilization is used.
