Harmful Effects of Jelly Sex Toys

It appears that some popular jelly sex toys can be not only pleasurable to your flesh but also injurious to your health. Recently harmful effects of jelly sex toys usage have been revealed to publicity by scientists.

All sex toys are divided into porous and non-porous based on the materials they are made of. Jelly sex toys are porous and usually made from a blend of PVC and rubber, which provides a soft texture and smooth feel. This material is one of the cheapest sex toys materials and may contain toxins. Jelly sex toys often have translucent colors and a strong rubber odor due to its porous nature.

Thus, one of the issues on jelly sex toys is that they contain phthalates. Phthalates are plastic softeners which give jelly its unique properties. The biggest amount of phthalates is used in PVC to achieve elasticity - almost 90% of the total plasticizer production.

According to the studies, phthalates are carcinogenic and harmful to reproductive system. High concentration of phthalates is linked to sperm deterioration. This year authors of the two studies associated the influence of phthalates in the womb and their generation in breast milk on male reproductive system.

Thereby the research taken in 2000 proved that some jelly sex toys emit 10 dangerous chemicals including diethylhexylphthalats. Besides phthalates concentration in jelly toys is 20 higher than the prohibitive amount in baby toys.

Another recent study of the health risks of products containing phthalates (children's teething rings and other household items) resulted in the ban on the usage of phthalates in baby toys, based on the fact that infants lick them off the toys when put these into their mouths. Consequently the response was rather quick: nowadays the market is full of harmless substitutes. Scientists, doctors and public figures hope that the same reaction will take place in case of ban on the usage of phthalates in adult toys production.

Thus far scientists insistently recommend using sex toys made of better quality materials. Otherwise condoms can be placed over a jelly sex toy for added protection. They recommend cleaning jelly toys after usage with a mild soap and warm water. After that the toys should be dried and stored in a cool dry place away from other objects, especially other jelly toys. Only water-based lubricants are used with jelly toys.
