STDs - High risk groups
Some people fondly believe that sex with a person who doesn't show any symptoms of an STD is safe. Unfortunately this is not true.
The fact is that some sexually transmitted diseases are symptom-free. Therefore an infected person is not necessarily aware of his disease and his being dangerous for others. That is why you must never have sex with a person without knowing whether he or she is harmless enough.
There are people who belong to so called high risk groups, i. e those who are most likely to get infected with an STD. Who are they?
Traditionally, these are prostitutes and people, especially young ones who often change sex partners and do not have possibility (or do not want) to undergo medical examinations and get necessary treatment.
Some STDs, so called new sexually transmitted diseases, especially clamidiosis imply wider risk groups. Almost all people of any age who have sexual relationships are very likely to get infected with genital herpes and HPV - human papilloma virus.
The vast majority of infected with an STD are young people who are more sexually active if compared with people of other ages. Believe it or not, modern teenagers begin sex life being 12-13. Almost all 14-16 teens have sexual relationships which, unfortunately, very often lead to STDs. The most important thing is that a person can be simultaneously infected with a few STDs which being together are very difficult to cope with.
Another persons belonging to STD high risk group are women who suffer from colpitis, inflammatory diseases of genitals, especially those which recur from time to time. Inflammatory diseases are all diseases ending with -it is or -osis, for example salpingitis, cervicitis and others.
As you see problems related to sexual health make you involved in high risk groups. Necessarily undergo medical treatment if you have a disease of this kind. Thus you will protect yourself of various complications, including STDs.
Strange though it may appear, nowadays even people older than 50 belong to risk group. According to Californian epidemiologists, people over 50 prefer use condoms 6 times rarer than youngsters.
Women who have reached menopause are especially vulnerable to STDs. The fact is that even HRT (hormonal replacement therapy) cannot help to completely get rid of dryness in the vagina. Natural vaginal fluids present one of the main obstacles preventing infection from getting into genital system. That is why a woman becomes more likely to get infected with an STD when her vagina is dry and more vulnerable.
Keep in mind that any person can get an STD, no matter what age he or she is. Mostly risk of infection is related to the number of your present or previous sex partners and the number of present and previous sex partners of your lover. Nowadays many middle age men and women, as well as young ones, often change their sex partners or prefer to have a few lovers simultaneously thus risking their sexual health and health in general.
Today spread of STDs has turned into a real epidemic. These diseases can considerably harm your sexual health and even ruin your life. This is the reason why doctor consider regular thorough examination of all people having sexual relationships necessary.
Keep in mind that your partner is potentially dangerous if
If he or she is a drug addict and uses injectable drugs. A needle, if shared transmits HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B.
If his or her job involves contact with blood. These are such professions as: nurses, doctors, dentists, etc.
If your partner has undergone blood transfusion
If your partner practices group sex
If your partner prefers one night stands
If your partner has sex contacts with persons of the same age, especially if he or she shares sex toys
If you groundlessly do not trust your partner and for an unknown reason suspect him or her of having an STDs. Trust your feelings and never risk.
Keep in mind, that there is almost no reason for unprotected sex. Always use condoms for any kind of sex activity: vaginal sex, anal sex and even oral sex, which does transmit STDs. Be choosy and never have sexual relationships with a person whom you do not quite trust. Even lesbians, who might think that sex between women is completely safe should protect themselves against STDs, because they, as well as people of other orientation come in contact with vaginal fluids through oral sex and sharing of sex toys.
As you see everyone is at risk. Do not be careless. Health is above all.
